Athletics are offered as extra-curricular activities to middle school students in an effort to reinforce lessons learned in the classroom and support the values of teamwork, individual and group responsibility, healthy living, healthy competition, diversity and a sense of belonging. These activities help our middle school students gain an appreciation of sportsmanship, citizenship and the spirit of healthy competition.
An Athletic Advisory Council (AAC), comprised of the Principal, Assistant Principal, Athletic Director and six non-faculty members, administer and operate the Athletic Program. Selected by the Pastor, one of the non-faculty members serves as AAC President. The remaining non-faculty members are selected by the Principal, Athletic Director and past AAC President. All non-faculty members serve three-year terms. All sponsored athletic activities are coached by parents and/or parishioners. Coaches must be VIRTUS trained and CSAL certified. The AAC is responsible for coach selection and approval.
Each student who participates in the Athletic Program is assessed a fee, as determined at the beginning of each school year. Fees cover expenses associated with the operation of athletic activities. No eligible student is denied the opportunity to participate in an athletic activity at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School due to financial reasons. Those facing such are asked to consult with the School Office prior to team selections.

Eligibility
Middle School students who are in compliance with the school and Catholic Schools Activities League (CSAL) rules and regulations may participate in the Athletic Program.
Clinics & Team Selection
Player clinics may be hosted prior to the start of an athletic activity season. These optional clinics provide helpful information to both the new and seasoned athletes. Following the clinics, student skills and abilities are assessed during a team selection process. The number of students wishing to participate determines the number of teams and players on each team, per CSAL rules.
Parent Participation
Parents of students who participate in athletic activities are expected to serve in at least one volunteer capacity, during the season in which their student plays. (i.e., scorekeeping, line judging, working the concession stand) Volunteer shifts are coordinated by team coaches and all parent volunteers must be VIRTUS trained.
