We offer the following preschool classes:
For 4 year olds (and older) half day, born on or before August 31
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
For 4 year olds (and older) full day, born on or before the first day of school
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
OVERVIEW
Objective: St. Thomas Aquinas Preschool will develop skills such as literary skills, math concepts and reasoning, cognitive development, social skills, fine motor skills and Catholic faith formation. Through small-group, independent play, and whole group instruction, students will learn the necessary skills to be ready for Kindergarten
Structure: One teacher and a para-professional.
Literacy Skills
- Recognizing own name in print
- Introduction to letters of the alphabet and identify upper and lower case letters
- Reciting the entire alphabet
- Retelling a simple story
- Reciting their own first, middle, and last name
- Producing rhyming words
Math Concepts and Reasoning
- Rote counting to 30
- Counting doing one-to-one correspondence
- Recognizing and identifying colors
- Shape identification
- Recognizing and identifying numbers 1-10 out of sequence
- Locating and naming body parts
- Sorting and categorizing objects
- Recognizing and expanding simple patterns
Social Skills & Cognitive Development
- Sitting and participating during class activities
- Speaking at appropriate volume
- Speaking at appropriate times during class
- Lining up and walking properly in school building
- Hanging up, unpacking and packing up backpack independently
- Putting on coat independently
- Playing cooperatively in small groups
- Sharing classroom items with other students
- Solving small problems independently
- Treating classroom items with respect and putting them back in proper places
Catholic Faith Formation
- Students will know that God created all people and things
- Students will be able to identify that God created their families
- Students will be able to do The Sign of the Cross
- Students will be able to recite The Prayer Before Meals, Angel of God,Our Father, and The Hail Mary
- Students will be able to show respect during prayer time
Fine Motor Skills
- Students will learn how to:
- Grasp scissors and cut correctly
- Demonstrate correct pencil posture.
- Demonstrate ability to write their first and last names
- Demonstrate ability to copy and draw shapes
