Hello! My name is Karlie Brown and I am the PreK-8th grade art teacher here at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School! I graduated from the University of Kansas where I was a member of the Rowing team. Following college I served as a FOCUS missionary for four years. Now, I’m back teaching in Catholic schools and am feeling blessed to be a St. Thomas Raider. I love teaching art, growing in my Catholic faith and building relationships!

  • Kindergarten–2nd Grade
Students will explore and experiment with a variety of art materials, tools, techniques, and the elements of art while using imagination and personal experiences to create artwork. They will learn to talk about, interpret, and share their own artwork and the artwork of others while beginning to understand how artists communicate ideas and feelings through visual images. Students will also make connections between art, their lives, their communities, and the world around them through creating, presenting, responding, and connecting.
  • 3rd–5th Grade
Students will build artistic skills and develop greater understanding of the processes of creating, presenting, responding to, and connecting with visual art. They will use the elements and principles of art to plan, create, revise, and present artwork while making thoughtful choices about materials, techniques, subject matter, and artistic meaning. Students will strengthen their ability to analyze and discuss artwork and explore how art reflects personal experiences, cultures, communities, and the world around them.
  • 6th–8th Grade
Students will apply increasingly sophisticated artistic skills and critical-thinking strategies to develop, refine, and communicate ideas through visual art and design. They will analyze and evaluate their own artwork and the artwork of others, make intentional decisions about media and artistic approaches, and use feedback and criteria to revise and strengthen their work. Students will also examine how art is influenced by culture, society, history, environment, and personal identity while developing their own visual voice and understanding of art's role in the world.
