George Barry West, 88, died on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with his wife and daughters by his side. Born in Rochester, New York in 1938, the son of Gertrude Barry West and George Lee West. Barry graduated from Notre Dame in 1960 and carried that Irish pride throughout his life.
Barry married Joyce, his college sweetheart, served his country for four years in the Army, and created a beautiful life for 39 years with their two daughters. After the passing of his first wife, Barry was twice blessed to find love with Kathy, adding three sons to his family and recently celebrated 25 years of marriage.
Barry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He showed his love through actions, daily prayers, and taking an interest in anyone he encountered. He loved golf, exercising, daily mass, and his Catholic faith.
Barry was a successful real estate broker/owner and served his community by serving on numerous board of directors including American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, Heartspring, and St. Francis Hospital.
Barry is survived by his wife, Kathy Ruane Struble West, and her sons, Michael (Christina Bresani), Timothy (Lori Beth), Matthew (Andrea Paton Ash) Struble; his daughters Lesley Hayter (Mark) and Amy Cameron (Bryan); grandchildren, Katelyn Hayter Gammon, Keara Hayter, Austin Reyes Mahler, Tyler and Morgan Cameron, Houston Edwards, Easton, Auden, Hunter, Hagen, and Henley Struble; great-grandchildren, Zaelah and Stellah Hayter, Jace Cameron
Rosary will be at 6:00 PM Thursday, July 23, 2026, and funeral mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, Catholic Charities 437 N. Topeka Ave., Wichita, KS 67202, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church 1321 N. Stratford, Wichita, KS 67206.
