For those who sign up for the Traveling Statue apostolate, the statue will stay in your home for one week to remind you to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life and for you to pray for your own vocations.
The wooden statue of St. Thomas Aquinas was carved by the late John Maulick, longtime STA parishioner and the carrying case for the statue was created by Tom Vonderbrink, another longtime STA parishioner. Thanks to these two imaginative and talented gentlemen, we at St. Thomas Aquinas have the most wonderful traveling statute. May the statue help inspire you as well.
During your week:
Please pick up the statue in the carrying case from the Parish Library after your normal weekend Mass. Keep the statue in your home that week, pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life as well as for your own vocations, and return the statue and carrying case to the Parish Library before the 5 pm Mass on Saturday to allow the next family to pick up the statue.
A suggested prayer:
Wichita Diocese Prayer for Vocations
“Heavenly Father, bless our diocese with the grace of many vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Through the intercession of the Blessed Mother, grant to those you have called the willingness and generosity of spirit to give themselves in devoting their lives and their talents to the service of our Lord and to His Church. Increase the faith of all within our diocese, and particularly the faith of those you have called and will continue to call. We ask this through Christ, your Son. Amen”
There are some suggested prayers printed in the notebook to guide you, if you want. Feel free to use any of them or you may choose your own favorite prayers. Openness to God through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas is all that is needed.
