Welcome to St. Thomas Aquinas Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten. We are excited and eager to begin and to greet our “little people” for the 2017-2018 school year! We will be opening with “Get Acquainted with STA Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Days.” Parents will stay with their children for this shorter session. It is during these times that we will give you and your child a glimpse of our little world and an opportunity to receive important information about our program. We invite you to try some of the activities, spend time with your child’s teacher, and meet new friends.

8:15 – 9:15 for our Morning students and parents
9:00 – 10:00 for our All Day PreK students and parents
12:30 – 1:30 for our Afternoon students and parents
This year, our All-Day PreK students will split for a shortened first day of school. Half the class will come Thursday, August 17 from 8-11:30, the other half will come Friday, August 18 from 8-11:30. You will receive a letter in early August letting you know which day to come.
During the first days of school, we are asking that each preschooler bring along a “teddy” or favorite stuffed animal to have and to hold for comfort and friendship. Some of our planned activities will involve these “friends” from home.
Our regular classroom schedule will begin as follows:
3 yr-old 2 day Preschool Morning classes will begin Tuesday, August 22
3 yr-old 2 day Preschool Afternoon classes will begin Tuesday, August 22
4 yr-old 3 day PreK Morning classes will begin Friday, August 18
4 yr-old 3 day PreK Afternoon classes will begin Monday, August 21
4 yr-old 5 day PreK Afternoon classes will begin Friday, August 18
4 yr-old All Day PreK class will begin Monday, August 21
For morning classes, doors open at 7:55 a.m. and classes dismiss at 11:00 a.m. Please walk students into the classroom for drop-off. At dismissal time please wait outside by the plaza circle drive area for your preschooler.
For afternoon classes, doors open at 12:30 p.m. and dismissal will begin at 3:20 p.m., for parents who need to exit the parking lot before the safety patrol closes the gates. (Gates are kept closed from 3:30 to 3:40 p.m. as all students are leaving the building. Vehicles are not allowed to enter or exit the parking lot while so many children are in the parking lot.) All-Day PreK students will be dismissed from the Church Cloister area.
Our Preschool/PreK classes will revolve around weekly themes, which may often correspond to the seasons, the Church calendar, or various preschool topics. Our August/September themes are as follows:
August 16 - 25: Meet New Friends (bring teddy bear or ‘friend’)
August 28 - Sept. 1: I Am Special (bring family photos)
September 5 - 8: My Family
September 11 - 15: Colors
September 18 - 22: Shapes
September 25 - 29: Apples, letter Aa
As we look forward to the week devoted to “My Family” September 5-8, we are asking a special favor of you. Please gather a few (meaning 4 to 6) family photos, including a Baptism photo. Put your child's name on the back of the photos and send them to preschool in an envelope marked with your child’s name. Students will be creating a collage about their families during that week. Also, please note the supply items listed below which may be brought to school on that first day.
If you are interested in being a Room Parent please let your child’s teacher know. (These parents take the lead in organizing holiday parties throughout the year.) If you are interested in being a parent volunteer occasionally or on a regular basis at preschool please let your child’s teacher know. We will need help in various areas of our preschool such as cooking or science projects. Also, if any of you have a particular hobby or work interest which you would like to share with our classes we invite you to schedule a time for a visit. ALL adult volunteers and regular visitors must be VIRTUS trained. You can view and register for upcoming training at www.virtus.org.
If at any time you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at home, email, or by leaving a message at the school office. Having you as part of our preschool family is important to us and it is our hope that we can work together positively to help your children grow during their time at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Preschool/PreK. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting year of learning and we thank you for sharing your child with us.
