Participation: Prayer & Worship

At St. Thomas, we Practice Stewardship as a Way of Life.  We participate.  We prayerfully consider which personal talents and skills we possess and how we can gratefully share those with God through our parish and our community.

The Pillar of Stewardship on which we will focus this week of our RSVP campaign is that of Prayer & Worship.  Prayer disposes souls to receive God’s abundant graces, which is necessary to grow in holiness. It is through prayer and worship that our parishioners nurture their personal relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

At St. Thomas, we enable parishioners to grow in their personal and shared spiritual journeys through helping them develop their prayers lives and enhancing their liturgical worship experiences.  We do this through providing parishioners opportunities which will allow them to grow closer to Christ through the Mass, promoting participation in Eucharistic Adoration, providing parishioners opportunities and resources to enhance their prayer lives, and ensuring parishioners the opportunity of reverent liturgical worship.

Our Children's Liturgy of the Word Apostolate provides our parishioners who are of pre-kindergarten age an opportunity to hear the about the weekly Gospel in terms that they will understand.  Often times coloring or an activity is included as reinforcement of the lesson.  Although this Apostolate could fall under the Faith Formation Pillar of Stewardship, we have chosen to consider it a part of the Prayer & Worship Pillar of Stewardship because it occurs during the celebration of our 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass.  In taking these young and eager students out of Mass to learn about the Gospel, we are also allowing their parents the opportunity for an enhanced Mass experience.

Each week that the Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered, more than a dozen youth participate.  Unfortunately, the number of stewards who pledge to serve this Apostolate falls short of meeting this demand.  We pray that as our parishioners are discerning how they will give back to God in 2018 that some will sincerely consider offering their talents to the Children's Liturgy of the Word Apostolate next year. Anyone who wants detailed information of what is involved is encouraged to review the 2018 Stewardship Directory and/or contact the Apostolate leader whose information can be found in the Directory.
