Service

 

“God so constructed the body, that there may be no dissension in the body, but that all the members may be concerned for one another. If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members share its joy.”  1 Cor. 12: 24b, 25-26

Parishioners seek the parish family as a primary community to serve and to be served—to give and to receive. If a parishioner finds they can serve and be ministered to, they have little need to search elsewhere for this fulfillment. Likewise, they have recognized a place where their service is appreciated and utilized for the good of the Church.  St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church strives to encourage parishioners to be of service to the parish and to the community.  Through the Service Pillar, parishioners can put into practice the other three pillars of stewardship:  hospitality, prayer and formation.

Parishioners are given opportunities to give back to God through the following Parish Apostolate Groups which are aligned with the Service Pillar of Stewardship:

Altar Linen Care

Members are responsible for laundering small altar linens used at Mass.  Time commitment is 3-4 hours per week for one month of the year.  Other volunteers launder the altar servers albs in May and November.  Each member is given 4-5 albs to wash, dry and press, if necessary.     

Church Cleaning

Members are responsible for maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of all indoor areas of the church.  Duties may include vacuuming, dusting, mopping, window washing, and other general duties.  Parishioners who volunteer for this Apostolate must be able to lift light objects and commit to a regular cleaning schedule.

 

 

Church Office Assistants

Members are needed to help with data entry, running errands, preparing mailings, staffing the office, and other projects as needed.

Courtesy Services

   

Members are responsible for offering Advent and Lenten items, Mother’s and Father’s Day Cards, etc., as a service to parishioners, after Masses.    

Food Drives

Members organize and advertise Parish Food Drives and deliver the food that is collected.  There are usually two annual drives, but volunteers also deliver donated food on a continuing basis throughout the year. 

Funeral Dinners

Members assist in preparing and serving a meal for the family and friends of the deceased after funerals. Members are assigned to teams that share hosting responsibilities on a rotating basis.

Gardening Apostolate

Nature-loving people with green thumbs are needed to be involved in the beautification of gardens and grounds. This group plants, mulches and waters flowers and plantings, which are changed seasonally throughout the year.

Mission Outreach

Parish nurses are available after all Masses one weekend a month to take parishioners’ blood pressures. Members are also responsible for sponsoring Red Cross Blood drives.

Members gather to make corded rosaries for various missions and local area groups. Meetings are held in the Assembly Room on Tuesdays following the 8:15 a.m. Mass. Members may also work at home.

Members are invited to connect with parishioners who are elderly, homebound, or otherwise cannot participate in parish life to the fullest. Long-term friendships are the ultimate goal of this program; time commitment is up to each member.

The Lord's Diner

Members prepare food, serve food and clean up at The Lord’s Diner, on the 30th day of each month.  Afternoon food prep (12 Noon-3:00 p.m.) and evening (5:00-8:00 p.m.) shifts available.  A food handler’s card and Virtus training are necessary.  For more information, please click the link to The Lord's Diner web page below:
