Formation

 

The Faith Formation program of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church focuses on education and enhancing the faith of our parishioners in accordance with four branches of the Catholic Catechism; beliefs, sacraments, morals and prayer.  Formation is not limited to classroom-based instruction.  Instead, liturgy, bibilcal study, and discipleship are merged together in an effort to provide meaningful faith formation opportunities for parishioners of all ages.

Parishioners are given opportunities to give back to God through the following Parish Apostolate Groups which are aligned with the Faith Formation Pillar of Stewardship:

Children's Liturgy of the Word

The Children's Liturgy of the Word is available for children ages 4-6 during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass, October through April, except on holiday weekends. Adult members are needed to teach age-appropriate lessons that follow each Sunday’s Gospel. Teacher guides are available online in advance. VIRTUS training is required.

Confirmation Preparation

Members prepare high school students for Confirmation. Host families, energetic catechists, chaperones for large-group gatherings, and retreat hospitality volunteers are all integral participants in the process. VIRTUS training is required.

The IGNITE Middle School Youth Group seeks to enrich the spiritual, social, and emotional lives of parish youth through monthly gatherings. Members are needed to share their faith by coordinating and participating in the activities and events. Youth who wish to join IGNITE are asked to make a pledge through their family stewardship commitment. VIRTUS training is required for adult help.

Members serve as catechists and aides for children who do not attend Catholic schools. Office and hospitality volunteers are also needed. PSR is held on Wednesdays, 6:00 - 7:15 p.m., Sept.-May. VIRTUS training is required to serve.

The Parish Library Apostolate oversees our collection of books and audiovisual materials, which are available for self-checkout. Parishioners who possess organizational, marketing, fund-raising and promotional skills will be a welcome addition to this Apostolate.  Volunteers are asked to attend evening meetings which are held approximately six times per year.

St. Gianna Family Groups serve to support couples of the parish and help them to come together to build family awareness and express their Catholic faith in their families and our community.  Groups must be approved by Father Matt McGinness as pastor and accept training and guidance from one of the two active Blessed Gianna Family Groups affiliated with our parish. The St. Thomas Aquinas Youth (S.T.A.Y.) Group seeks to enhance the spiritual, social, and emotional development of parish youth. This group meets weekly on Monday evenings and is open to all high school students. Adult members are needed to share their faith through talks at youth nights and interaction with teens. Adults may also help by chaperoning events and providing snacks for meetings. Core team members commit to ongoing support of the ministry and attend weekly. VIRTUS training is required for adults.

This week-long summer catechetical program is for students in grades 1-12.  Members have the option to provide  lodging for Totus Tuus team members, provide dinners or lunches for team members, and help supervise students during the day and evening programs. VIRTUS training is required.

Vocation Support

Parishioners encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life by offering programs to parishioners, with special emphasis on students.      

Young Adults

Young Adults is intended to help individuals build lasting relationships with fellow disciples and help members grow in their faith, through social activities and formation opportunities. The group targets those between the ages of 21-35, married or single. The activities schedule can be found on the parish website.
