Boys Basketball at STA

General Schedule:

• Mid October:  clinic and team selection

• End of October: 1st day practices may begin

• Early-November: Three pre-season games (see example below on pre-season games)

• Mid of November: Regular season schedules are available

• End of November: Regular season games begin.  Games break for the Christmas holiday and will resume once school is back in session at the first of the year.

•Early February: last of regular season games

• Mid-February:  post season tournaments

6th grade will play 8 regular season games and the 7th and 8th grades will play 10 regular season games.  6th grade typically plays most of their games on Saturdays, but may have games on some weekday evenings.  Games on weeknights are 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 p.m. Saturday games begin at 8:00 a.m. and last games begin at 3:00 p.m.

Pre-Season Power Matching: For this example assume there are 24 teams in 7th grade.  Using the results from 6th grade the league will schedule the first 12 games, not using any specific seeding criteria, just trying to keep the best teams from playing each other in the first round. After the first game there will be 12 teams who are 1-0 and 12 teams who are 0-1.  For the second game all 1-0 teams will play 1-0 teams and all 0-1 teams will play 0-1 teams.  After the second game there will be 6 teams who are 2-0, 6 teams who are 0-2 and 12 teams who are 1-1.  For the third game, all teams will play someone with their same record. At the end of three games, there will be 3 teams who are 3-0, 9 teams who are 2-1, 9 teams who are 1-2 and 3 teams who are 0-3.  All 3-0 and 2-1 teams will be in the upper division.  All 1-2 teams and 0-3 teams will play in the lower division.  A 1-2 team could request to move to the upper division if they believe they suffered from a bad draw, however no 2-1 teams will be allowed to move down. (If we have an odd number of teams like 23 or 25, then their might have to be a couple of extra games to determine the split).

STA will provide jersey and shorts for each player.  Shooting shirt is optional and purchased by parents.  Uniforms (freshly washed) must be returned after season is complete.
