Children's Liturgy of the Word

The Children's Liturgy of the Word is an opportunity for children ages four (4) through Kindergarten to learn about the Sunday Gospel readings in a child-centered setting through age-appropriate lessons.  Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass, October through April.  Children wishing to participate are called to the Altar, by the celebrant after the second reading, for a blessing, follow the instructor to Allen Hall for the lesson, and return to Mass before the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Children's Liturgy of the Word is an excellent way to engage even the youngest of parishioners in meaningful worship!

STA has taken the next step in our children's faith formation by offering a Children's Liturgy of the Word for children, 4 years through Kindergarten. Children wishing to participate leave Mass before the readings and are taught a lesson that follows the Sunday's Gospel. A story and cover activity in each weekly lesson prepare the children to hear the Gospel message. The activities help the children understand how the Gospel relates to their own lives. The children then return to their family after the homily, which allows the children to be present for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. This new program should engage our youngest parishioners in worship and promote discussion within families about the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Church. Teacher guides walk catechists through the lessons and are available online in advance. If you are interested in leading weekly lessons for the Children's Liturgy of the Word, please contact me.
