Mrs. Hanson's News

I grew up in Iowa, third in a family of eight children. I attended the University of St. Mary in Kansas and graduated with a double major in English and Elementary Education. Since 1972, I have taught pre-school through third grade as well as substituting through the twelfth grade. My teaching experience at St. Thomas Aquinas began in 1997. I have lived throughout the Midwest and Connecticut. My husband George is an engineer at Bombardier Aircraft. Together we have three children and five grandchildren. I am also a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Andover. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I hope to continue offering opportunities for each student to build on their skills and talents. It is also my privilege to prepare second graders for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Weekly Newsletter May 15-19

Religion

Testing for the Morning Offering is completed. If your child wishes to retest they must come see me this week. Thank you for helping your child with learning their prayers. We continue to review in Religion this week. Stewardship continues to be the focus in our lessons each week. Thank you for helping your child MS and even ES for second grade. You have been amazing in not only making sure your child met the 30 minute requirement for each quarter, but exceeding that! You are so good!

Reading

Our story this week is Muggie Maggie by Beverly Cleary. It is a Chapter Book and its focus is cursive writing which the class has just now completed. I think the class will enjoy this read.

We will also continue to finish our Family Scrapbooks. We have several writing pieces yet to complete.

Spelling

There will be no spelling test this week!

Math

We will be doing some third grade step up math lessons this week.

Training for Moby Max is complete and your child now has a card with information on how to get on to work on Math Fluency.

Each second grader is expected to do a minimum of 30 minutes per week on Math Fluency. Hopefully you will find this tool helpful in making second grade standards. We will work on Moby Max on Monday in the computer lab.

Social Science/Science

We will complete our unit on Inventions this week.
